Design-optimised worm gear units

As the first manufacturer of such units, ZAE brought extremely robust worm gear units to the market as long ago as the seventies, complete with single-piece casings. Since then, many product details have been improved upon, not least of which are the considerably increased torques which can now be transmitted. Alongside pure design measures, improvements in material quality, optimisation of lubricants and the marked increased in production quality have all contributed to the increases in performance and service life of the gear units.

As long as three years ago the small size units with shaft centre distances of 40 to 80 mm were re-worked in a first step. The new gear units can easily be differentiated from their predecessors thanks to their largely completely machined casing surfaces.

A further step involved reworking of the larger gear units in the series with shaft centre distances of 100 and 200 mm (see photo on right).
Once again, alongside the more modern visual appearance, the transferred powers could be increased. In particular, the increase in surface area due to additional fins as well as the new design of the fan shroud provide for improved heat dispersion. At the same time the lubrication conditions for bearings and seals are improved.
The main dimensions and connecting dimensions, have been adapted unchanged, as also for the smaller gear units.

Stainless steel bevel gear units

ZAE has been supplying stainless steel bevel gear units since April 2006. They are of particular use in the following industries:

The hygiene requirements in these industry areas are extremely high: The production installations are subjected to frequent cleaning, in which aggressive cleaning and disinfectant agents are used at high intensities (pressure). For this reason, drives used in the installations must have a very high degree of protection.

The new bevel gear unit range from ZAE is thus completely manufactured from stainless steel, because only this material is completely resistant to the named effects.

January 2004
ZAE gear units ATEX-conformant

In accordance with the ATEX guideline 94/9/EC, not only electric motors, but also the apparatus and units used with them are subject to explosion control.

ZAE has developed the angular gear unit ranges (worm/bevel gear units) in accordance with the requirements so that they are now available with the necessary conformity certification.

ZAE gear units can be used in unit categories 2 and 3, temperature class T4.

For drive design details as well as determination of the permissible operating parameters, please contact our engineers, who will be glad to advise you.

The conformity certification is contained in the new ZAE operating manual.
